Farm to School Week

Farm to School Week

Mississippi Farm to School Week is October 1-5, 2012, in conjunction with National Farm to School Month. The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce is partnering with the Mississippi Department of Education to bring this celebration of agriculture to Mississippi schools. The purpose of this program is to support local state farmers while serving healthy foods in school cafeterias. In addition, this program is an educational tool used to enhance the knowledge of our school-aged children on agriculture and healthy eating. As society is becoming increasingly further away from agricultural practices, it remains pertinent to educate students on where their food comes from.

Educators will find a variety of resources to publicize Farm to School Week and tools to use in the classroom. The PDFs are available for downloading and printing. Please take this opportunity to incorporate Mississippi’s number one industry- agriculture, into everyday teaching. After all, agriculture is all around us!
